Vertical Jigging and Plugging Fishing Tackle

When pairing up vertical jigging and plugging outfits you need to consider the rod and reel’s purpose and function and match the pair accordingly.

You don’t want a light vertical jigging rod if you have a big reel with a strong drag. You can fish with this combination but you won’t be able to use the reel for what it was designed for. Exactly the same applies with a strong rod and a smaller or less expensive reel. The drag will be inadequate and you won’t be able to apply enough pressure to bend he rod to even half its potential pulling power.

Vertical Jigging  - a fishing technique of vertically jigging a spoon

Vertical jigging is the fishing technique of dropping a jig or spoon vertically to the sea bed from a boat and then bringing it back to the surface by a series of jerks  and jigging movements. The technique is to attract bottom feeding fish and game fish by trying to get a bite when retrieving the jigging spoon, by mimicking a bait fish or an injured fish that ascends with short spurts of speed or at a fast rate at the target depth.

I am not an expert, however this should help to get started.

First of all lets look at the principals required to cast:

1. Face your left foot in the direction of the cast, with your right foot in a comfortable position for balance. Twist your waist past your right foot as the more your body twists, the more power you will generate.
