Angling
The arrival of the sardines on the Kwazulu Natal coatline this year has created some great fishing opportunities for both deep sea and rock and surf anglers. Earlier last week, the lower South Coast produced some great catches of both edible and non-edible fish such as Natal Stump nose, Kob, Garrick, Grey Sharks, Spinner Sharks and Bronze Whales.

Recent South Westly wids will hopefully push the Sardines closer inshore allowing anglers to become apart of the action. It is advisable to have your cast nets ready which are available at the Kingfisher for R375-00.

A shoal of Sardines came in by snake park pier on Wednesday 29th July allowing anglers to catch some nice fish including Snoek on artificial lures such as the Kingfisher 30 gram Snoek spoon as well as jig and drop traces.

Shad have been on the bite every day now and the rocks are busy with fishermen casting baits and spoon with good success.

In terms of Offshore fishing the sea hasn’t been to great, making for uncomfortable fishing. There has however been some good catches of Geelbek and Daga Salmon. To improve your chances of catching some of these fish, the Kingfisher has just launched a new trace which is proving to be very successful. This trace consists of 38kg trace line 9/0 Kendal round hook and a good quality 3 way swivel, with some glow beads and glow skirts.

There has been some monster Couta on the upper North Coast some of these fish clearing the 30kg mark. These fish has all been taking big live baits such as Shad, Bonito and big Mackeral.

Down on the South Coast there has been some good catches of Yellowfin Tuna, these fish are mainly eating top water lures such as Strike Pro surface popers.

With Winter upon us the fresh water fishing has been quiet as expected. There has however been reports of better quality fish in the likes of a few Carp in the 10 -13kg range in central KZN (Greytown).

There seems to be settling down after sum big South Westerly wids, hopefully this would bring the Sardines in shore. If you want to have a closer look t the weather here are sum website to view: windguru, bougweather and magicseaweed.
