FISHING REPORT 13TH NOVEMBER 2010
Angling
With the sort of weather we are experiencing lately the only people that are happy now is Wind Surfers and Kite Boarders. Anglers on the other hand are finding it hard to get a good window of weather to get some angling in. With the shad ban still on a lot of anglers have resorted to other forms of angling due to the bad weather conditions.
Generally there is not much to report on except that there are still some good fish coming out in the Transkei. This is one area where wind is not much of a factor as most angling is done off big Points and into deep water. Garrick seems to be tapering off somewhat down there but shark angling is going great guns. Some good fish have been taken and the bulk of the sharks have been mostly hammerhead sharks. Grey and spinners sharks are slowly coming on the bite and with all the rain we have had recently general shark fishing in this part of the world should improve dramatically.
Locally there is very little news except for the odd brusher being landed along the rocky ledges. Anglers fishing for grunter in the Bay are having a very good season so far and there are reports of some good specimens being caught in the deep water. Terry Nel from Tacklenet in Port Edward reports that on the rock and surf side, some good news this week, men who defend our country also know how to catch fish and although fish were hard to find and unfavourable conditions worked against the teams, some anglers produced excellent results. A star catch was made by defense force angler Andre' Krahtz who landed a 9,48kg garrick while scratching for reef fish using prawn bait on a size 8 hook. This was one of two garrick caught the same way. Other fish caught were hammerhead sharks, bronze bream, baardman and a large honeycomb was lost at the gaff.
Some news from Zululand’s Julian Pybus, currently assisting with the World Games, shore angling down in Langebaan. After day 1 SA men are currently lying 2nd behind Wales and the ladies team are lying 6th.
