ROCK ‘N SURF
Since the weather has changed for the better and the sea has settled, fishing has improved remarkably and the fishing spots are packed full of fishermen again. Shad is the order of the day and fresh Natal sardines are available at most tackle shops and these are irresistable baits for the Shad. On Saturday the 9th July the Common venue competition was held on the South Coast, not much came out except for sum Bronze Bream, Rockcord and Kob. The biggest fish being a 6kg Rob. Addington beach still seems to be giving a few Natal Stumpnose in the 2 – 4kg range, Chokka and Prawn baits seem to be doing the tricks.
They netted Sardines yesterday, 12th July on Addington beach with not to much action with them expect for lots of Shad. There has been some good catches of Garrick and Kob on both the North and South coast. Ready made traces are available for both these fish at The Kingfisher.
OFFSHORE
In the deep blue there have been sum fine catches of bottom fish, There has also been nice sized Couta off the Tugela area remember to fish a stronger trace this time of the year as the bigger Couta shows themselves in the Winter. A good trace being number 7 American fishing wire between the hooks and a number 5 in front of the bait. A good quality treble is also essential like the Mustad 5X strong size 2. The weather forecast looks good for the next week so get out there and get your personal best on the King Mackerel.
The Geelbek and Daga Salmon are still coming out. Please remember your catch limits on these fish which are 2 Geelbek per person, any Daga Salmon under the length of 1.1m the limit is 5 fish. If it exceeds the length of 1.1m you are only allowed 1 fish!. Give the Mustad 9/0 circle hook a try for these fish as you hook them in the corner of the mouth every time. There has been some fine catches of Natal Snoek in the Durban area, both Ski-Boats and Paddle Skies getting in on the action, best trace for the Snoek at the moment being a number 8 Power swivel, 20cm of number 4 American fishing wire and a 5/0 Mustad bass hook, with a Kingfisher Snoek duster seems to be doing the job.
