KZN FISHING REPORT - 02 February 2008
ROCK & SURF - KZN Coast Angler’s Union Common Venue Round one of KZN Coast Angler’s Union Common Venue was fished 3 - 7:30pm Saturday 26th January and at the time of submitting this fishing report result were still coming in. Huntlashar’s Amateur Angling club took 1st position amongst the Central Zone teams followed closely by Defence and Flying Fish Clubs. Nitesh Dayaram fishing Tongaat long beach put His team in first place with a fine Giant Cuta fish of 41kg using a small mixed bait of Chokka and Mackeral on a little 1/0 Mustad Big Gun Hook.
SKI BOATS & PADDLE SKI'S Skiboaters and Paddle Ski’s are in for a great Couta season. All popular offshore spots are producing these fine table fish now and reports from Mozambique advise that massive shoals are travelling South. Shark activity continues to be a huge problem and anglers are lucky if they boat 50% of fish hooked. Bass Anglers, the 11th Inanda Bass Classic takes place at the Inanda Dam on the 26-27 April. Entries are limited to 300 boats and it is strongly recommended to register early. The past 2 years have seen entries turned away because of the popularity of this tournament. Entry forms available at The Kingfisher.
FRESH WATER Bill Simson reports from the Underberg Himeville Trout Fishing Clubs – “The rivers have been in spate for most of the last two weeks but the water has been fairly clear in the flood conditions. Anglers have been successful on the upper beats of the Umzimkulu and on the Umzimkuluana, where most of the trout caught have been about 500g in size, with the biggest 750g. Water temperatures are very high in the still waters and the trout have not been active, However, patience and hard work do produce results. One very big fish was returned to the water without having been weighed. If this happened more frequently our waters would produce many more big fish”.
ESA The Extreme Sports Angling guys are at it again on SS1, Tuesday at 7pm (Bass) Thursdays at 7.30pm (Saltwater). This angling show is on DSTV’S Super Sports channel with reruns during the week; check your T V Guide for more details.
