Please explain your favourite retrieval method 4 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi all

I am quite new to dropshotting and I am trying to find out what the best retrieval ways are when dropshotting.

I've been searching the net and cannot really find anything, especially something with a video. They also mention a retrieval method (like walk the dog), but does not describe it. I need detail!!

I am sure a lot of you use some unique retrieval patterns and it would be nice to describe it to us so that we all can try it and benefit from it.

I use plastic lures with jigheads as well as spoons. We fish in Qatar and the water is very flat here, like a lake, and the fish we catch are Queenfish, King Mackerel, Sherri, Garfish, Flatheads and Barracuda.

Please everyone, share your knowledge so that we can help each other.

Thanks.

Andries

There are quite a number of ways to retrieve. It does however depend of what you are using. Minnows, shads etc can be retrieved like an injured fish i.e. jerk then drop, jerk jerk then drop. The time intervals between the jerks and drops is entirely experimental as well as the speed of retrieval. Keep trying different methods and check what works in a particular area. Creature baits, sandworms etc would normally be retrieved along the bottom slowly or they can be thrown into the wash off rocks and tidal pools to imitate food being washed naturally into the sea.

Hi stumbled across this site while browsing the net looking for fishing tackle. I started drop shot fishing about a year ago and have experienced phenominal success! Unfortunately the specie that I generally target is Cob. I generally fish from a ski but also from the surf. As you know Cob like dirty water, so I'm not sure if my input will be helpful! Cob are generally bottom feeders while the fish you are targeting are game fish and are mid to top water feeders. My most successful retrieve is a double twitch and then I let the lure sink all the way back down to the bottom, but I remain "in touch" with the lure. The strange thing is that the strike is not coming on the twitch but as I let it sink back down! I also fish with braided line it is so much more sensitive and reactive to those light takes, I seldom miss a fish! Hope this helps.
