Advise on skippers and boat license, rubber dinghy 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi

Please advise on the following :

1. I have purchased the intex mariner rubber dinghy, does this particular boat require a license of any sort ? If so how and where can I obtain this in Durban ? From what I have been told boats without motors such as these do not require a license, even if a trolling motor or under 15hp motor is fitted it does not require a license. Is this correct ?

2. Would one require a skippers license for this as well ? If so how and where can I book, learn and complete the test ? I would assume if the boat does not require a license one would not require a skippers license.

3. Where can I buy life jackets from in Durban ? At a reasonable price of course. Seconds are fine too.

4. Also, where can I obtain a decent deep cycle battery under R1000 for a 30lb trolling motor ?

5. If a trolling motor is fitted to my rubber duck, will I have to register the boat to use in Durban harbour ?

6. If not and I use the oars to paddle in and out, do I need any permit / certificate of sorts to navigate in Durban harbour. Spoke to couple of paddle ski okes, they have no certificates/permits etc and go in and out all the time.

Please advise.

Thanks

Regards
