What is the difference between drop shot and artificial lure? I feel I can maybe contribute to the site but I am uncertain of where to put the posts. I have had an exceptional season and run of good luck with regards to catching fish (specifically Cob) on lures (basically unheard of doing down here on the West Coast!) I tell fellow anglers that I'm using drop shot, but now I'm not so sure. I use the ready rigged soft plastics, the plastics that you would rig onto a jig head and also the bucktails, I have how ever not had any success with the hard swimming/diving Rapala type lures. How would say I'm fishing? Drop shot or artificial lure?

Drop Shot is a tackle rigging technique using a hook tied to the line from four-inches to four-feet above the sinker. The hook is attached using a Palomar knot and the weight is attached to the tag line from the knot. The hook is set at a 90-degree angle to the line, typically with the hook point pointing upward toward the pole. Typical drop shot baits are small, usually 4-inches or less. The term is being loosly used these days as fishing small soft lures in saltwater and freshwater.

Hi Griff, then I would be correct if I said I was fishing artificial lure and not drop shot, as I'm definately not doing or rigging like you have explained! Thanks for the info!
