I stay in Maputo and would like to start Dropshot fishing, there's no information here so I was wondering if some of the guys could give me the best advice on how and tackle, hooks, smelly plastic baits, weights ext and best place to get them.

Thanks.

You will need a reasonable rod and reel to start with that will depend on your budget. The best rods are from 7ft to 9th with a fast action which allows the rod to impart action onto the lure. The Daiwa Firewolf 8ft 6in is a popular choice. A regular action rod will also do. The best reel is the Daiwa Exceler 2500. If that is too pricey then go for the Daiwa Regal 2500.

Use about 5 to 8kg nylon with good abrasive qualities or use Berkley Fireline of about 8lb is you are prepared to spend the extra money. A good fluorocarbon abrasion resistant leader should be used. About 50 to 60cm should do.

Plastic shads, minnows and creature baits can be used with a jig head of 1/4oz to about 3/4oz.

You can get the items on this website http://www.fishingtackle.co.za. If you need help give us a call or email your request into This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

I hope that helps
